Visualization is the art of seeing things within your mind, whether you are seeing people, places or images. Most people have this ability. Let’s try a little exercise here that will help with your self hypnosis.

Pretend you are holding a red balloon in front of you, close your eyes and try to visualize it. Could you see it? Good, now picture the red balloon floating away up into the sky. See the blue sky and the red balloon getting smaller and smaller as it disappears.
If you are having problems, try looking at a picture or a bright object then look away and try to ’see’ with your mind what you just saw in the picture or the object. Did you see it this time?
If you saw a dark gray spot the shape of the object and the image slowly faded into sight you are still trying to see with your eyes and not your mind.
What color is your car, can you ‘see’ your car?
Self hypnosis sessions will usually start with some type of relaxation technique using visualization.
Since I can relate to being on a beach this exercise came easily to me. Close your eyes and relax, then picture yourself walking on an empty beach, sorry guys no bikini clad girls here. Feel the warm soothing sand on your feet. Picture the waves gently lapping the beach. Sit down and feel the sand with your hand. Pick up a fistful of the warm sand letting it run out through your fingers. Pick up some more until you can feel it. Hear the waves as you play with the sand. Smell the ocean and feel the sun on you. Just relax and let yourself enjoy the moment.
I use this visualization before doing any meditating and before I put in a self hypnosis CD, even if I know the session has a similar exercise of relaxing you. I just find I have a better experience with self hypnosis if I am relaxed to begin with.

Great and practical tip for preparing our mind and body before we do our session.
