In a study done in 2000 at the SUNY Upstate Medical University Pediatric Pulmonary Center on kids up to 18 years of age. Patients were offered self hypnosis if they had symptoms or signs suggestive of psychological difficulties. Hypnosis was taught in one or two 15–45 minute sessions by a pediatric pulmonologist.

Of 725 new referrals:
- 424 were 0–5 years old
- 193 were 6–11 years old
- 108 were 12–18 years old
Diagnoses of anxiety, habit cough, or vocal cord dysfunction accounted for:
- 1% of the 0–5 year olds
- 20% of the 6–11 year olds
- 31% of the 12–18 year olds
Hypnotherapy was offered to:
- 1% of 0–5 year olds
- 36% of 6–11 year olds
- 55% of 12–18 year olds
Out of 81 patients who received instruction in self hypnosis for anxiety, cough, chest pain, dyspnea, or inspiratory difficulties, 75% returned for follow-up, out of the returning patients 95% reported improvement or resolution of their symptoms.
Previous Studies
Previously, we reported the outcome of hypnotherapy offered at our Pediatric Pulmonary Center. Reported rates of improvement following hypnotherapy ranged from 86% of patients with anxiety, 90% of patients with habit cough, 91% of patients with vocal cord dysfunction, and 100% of patients with chronic dyspnea, who had normal lung function at rest.
The purpose of the current study was to define the proportion of all patients referred to our Pediatric Pulmonary Center who might receive benefit from instruction in self hypnosis as a psychological intervention.
Conclusion
A large number of patients referred to a Pediatric Pulmonary Center appeared to benefit from instruction in self-hypnosis, which can be taught easily as a psychological intervention.
If you or anyone in your family suffers from respiratory problems, self hypnosis may just be what you have been looking for to improve or eliminate those problems.

People underestimate the power that the mind has over the body. It can really do wonderful things if you let it. Thanks for the post!
WoW “95% reported improvement or resolution of their symptoms” I have not seen standard medicine practices hit those kind of numbers. The power within is astounding!
It’s really incredible how well hypnosis works for so many different things. I like the fact that the study was done with children as they have nothing to prove or disprove when using hypnosis.
Great! Helping people without using drugs — something that can be under each person’s control. Love it.
@Beanie – Drug free is the way to go!
I feel that this approach should be developed further
@ George – I agree the power of Self Hypnosis as revealed in this study is amazing isn’t it.
I have a son with breathing problems…I wonder if this would help him as well?? Something to think about for sure
I have to say that I was a bit surprised at these figures. Especially of the children aged 5 and below. The positive on this is that they are getting help to these children early and are able to offer beneficially improvement through the use of self-hypnosis.
This is interesting. I am curious to know how hypnosis can improve a set of physical symptoms.
@Kenj The power of the mind is truly amazing. By targeting specific areas of your mind, you are able to stimulate growth in specific areas of your body. Self hypnosis triggers the mechanisms and glands necessary for growth. All the scripts offered here are risk fee, so give it a try.

En esto algo es y es la idea buena. Es listo a apoyarle.
How many years would you think it would take a newbie to master the technique of self hypnosis? It really sounds a bit like buddhism
